Spark A Connection Event Discusses Social Isolation

Sep 30, 2020 | Local News

The Spark A Connection virtual event earlier this month discussed the realities of social isolation.

Organized by community health boards in Richmond, Guysborough, and Antigonish, as well as the Pictou-Antigonish Regional Library, Spark A Connection was a virtual event featuring participants from community organizations and other stakeholders supporting those at risk of social isolation

Kristel Fleuren-Hunter, with the Antigonish Town and County Community Health Board, said the event went well, noting the original plan was for an in-person event back in May. She the event delved in to what exactly social isolation is, it’s prevalence, and how numerous groups are working to address the issue. She called it a chance to learn what everyone is doing and being inspired to do more.

As for what is next, Fleuren-Hunter said the community health boards are hoping people will apply for wellness funds for projects. She said some want to use the opportunity to keep in touch with other and see how they can work together.
