Maritime League: The Pictou County Weeks Crushers lost at home 6-3 to Summerside. Tonight, the Crushers host Amherst at the Wellness Centre at 7 pm.
Seniors League: The Bulldogs were edged out 5-4 by the East Hants Penguins, while the County Islanders doubled the Blackstone Knights 8-4. Tonight: Knights v Miners in Glace Bay, and Pictou County Pipers vs Bulldogs at Antigonish Arena. Both games begin at 7:30 pm.

Maritime Major Girls U18 League: In a tournament in Fredericton, the Northern Subway Selects defeated the CB Lynx 5-2. In action today: Selects v Stars 8am, then the Lynx play the Rockets at 10 am, the Lynx & Flames face off at 4 pm, followed by the Selects v Wolves at 6.
U15: Novas v Bearcats in Truro at 4, then Wearwell Bombers v Harbour Rage at 7.

Cole Reschny sparked a five-goal barrage in the first period to help Canada cruise past Slovakia 7-1 in the quarterfinals of the world junior hockey championship in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Canada will meet Czechia in Sunday’s semifinal. Sweden has a date with rivals Finland, which beat the host U-S in overtime, in the other semifinal for a berth in Monday’s championship game.
Mika Zibanejad had three goals and two assists, Alexis Lafreniere had three assists, and the visiting New York Rangers beat the Florida Panthers 5-1 in Friday’s N-H-L Winter Classic at loanDepot Park in Miami. Artemi Panarin also scored twice for the Rangers, who improve to 6-and-0 in outdoor games. Sam Reinhart scored his 23rd of the season for the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers.
Matty Beniers scored the only goal of the shootout to lift the visiting Seattle Kraken to a 4-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks. Cale Fleury, Chandler Stephenson and Ben Meyers scored in regulation time for the Kraken, who held 2-0 and 3-1 leads. Jake DeBrusk had a goal and two assists for the Canucks, while Kiefer Sherwood and Linus Karlsson netted singles.
Matas Buzelis had 21 points and nine rebounds, Kevin Huerter had 20 points, and the Chicago Bulls got back to the .500 mark with a 121-114 victory over the visiting Orlando Magic. The Bulls won their second straight and evened their record at 17-and-17. Paolo Banchero had 31 points and six rebounds for the Magic, who slipped to 19-and-16.
Canadian Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 30 points and added 7 assists as the Western Conference-leading Oklahoma City Thunder bounced the host Golden State Warriors 131-94. Chet Holmgren added 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Thunder, who improved to 30-and-5 with their fourth straight win. Will Richard, Moses Moody and Al Horford all scored 13 points for the Warriors, who had their two-game win streak halted.
American defensive back Garry Peters signed a one-year extension with the B-C Lions, keeping him with the C-F-L club for an eighth season. The six-foot, 200-pound native of Georgia sits eighth on the Lions’ all-time list with 381 defensive tackles. His 19 interceptions put him in 19th spot on the team’s all-time list. He has played 120 regular-season games for B-C.
