Kawhi Leonard is heading back to the Toronto Raptors after they struck a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers to reunite with the player who led their run to the 2019 N-B-A championship. According to sources, the Clippers will acquire Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, unprotected first-round picks in 2031 and 2033, a pick swap in 2027, and two second-round picks.
Julián Quinones and Raúl Jiménez scored goals in a nine-minute span in the first half and Mexico defeated Ecuador 2-0 in Mexico City to break a 40-year drought without a win in the knockout stage and progress to the World Cup round of 16. Mexico had not won a knockout-stage match since defeating Bulgaria when they hosted the tournament in 1986. The match started one hour after the original scheduled time due to a thunderstorm.
Francisco Alvarez and Luis Torrens hit solo home runs, Nolan McLean pitched six innings of five-hit ball, and the visiting New York Mets beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-0 on Tuesday. The Jays, who won 2-1 on Monday, will attempt to win the three-game series on Canada Day before heading out on the road for a nine-game road trip. The Jays are 2-and-7 in their current homestand.
Tarik Skubal pitched six innings of one-hit ball, Riley Greene hit two of Detroit’s four homers, and the visiting Tigers beat the Yankees 9-3 on Tuesday and sent New York to its season-worst sixth straight loss. Skubal, making his fourth start since returning from elbow surgery, struck out nine and walked none. Ben Rice had a solo home run for the Yankees.
Sabrina Ionescu scored 26 points, Breanna Stewart added 25, and the New York Liberty beat the visiting Las Vegas Aces 93-85 on Tuesday to win the W-N-B-A Commissioner’s Cup. Las Vegas was missing four-time M-V-P A’ja Wilson, who tweaked her right ankle on Sunday against Chicago. The Aces gave the Liberty all they could handle thanks to Jackie Young, who scored 25 of her 31 points in the second half.
