Sam Antonacci hit a two-run home run, Braden Montgomery matched his career-high with four R-B-Is, and the Chicago White Sox extended their win streak to four with a 12-4 victory over the host Toronto Blue Jays. George Springer, Luis Urías (oo-REE’-ahs) and Brandon Valenzuela hit solo home runs, but the Jays couldn’t recover after giving up five in the second inning. The Jays have lost three straight.
Vincent Blanchard kicked four field goals as the Edmonton Elks continued their superb start to the C-F-L season, holding on for a 19-17 victory over the visiting B-C Lions. The Elks, who haven’t made the playoffs since 2019, moved back into sole possession of first place in the West Division at 5-and-1. The Lions, who lost starting quarterback Nathan Rourke to injury on the opening drive, dropped to 1-and-4.
Leila Lacan had 26 points and five assists, Kennedy Burke added 13 points, and the visiting Connecticut Sun defeated the Phoenix Mercury 96-83. Kahleah Cooper had 21 points for the Mercury. Earlier in the night, the visiting Atlanta Dream defeated the Toronto Tempo 111-92. Marina Mabrey had 26 points in the loss for the Tempo, who have lost two in a row.
Lucy Cappadona and Hailey Whitaker scored four minutes apart in the first half, and the visiting Montreal Roses defeated the winless Calgary Wild 2-0 in Northern Super League play. Goalkeeper Anna Karpenko stopped three shots to record the clean sheet for the Roses, who improved to seven wins, two losses and three draws. The cellar-dwelling Wild have nine losses and two draws.
