Substitute Cyle Larin scored in the 78th minute and co-host Canada earned its first point in its third World Cup appearance by rallying for a 1-1 draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina at Toronto Stadium. Larin converted Promise David’s pass two minutes after entering the game. Jovo Lukic scored in the 21st minute for Bosnia. Canada’s next Group B match is Thursday against Qatar in Vancouver.

The U-S opened its first home World Cup in 32 years with an impressive 4-1 win over Paraguay in Group D action. Folarin Balogun scored twice in the Americans’ historic three-goal first half. Gio Reyna ripped another goal in the dying moments of second-half injury time, giving the Americans four goals in a World Cup match for the first time. The U-S scored only three goals combined in Qatar four years ago.

Kazuma Okamoto and George Springer homered, Alejandro Kirk had three hits and two R-B-Is in his return from injury, and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the visiting New York Yankees 8-5. Kirk went 3-for-3 with a walk after missing 62 games because of a fractured left thumb. Cody Bellinger homered for the Yankees, who had their four-game win streak halted.

Davis Alexander threw for two touchdowns, and Micah Awe’s game-changing blocked punt led to a late score as the Montreal Alouettes beat the visiting Toronto Argonauts 37-30. Alexander was 30-of-42 passing for 441 yards and two touchdowns for Montreal, which improved to 2-and-0. Alexander extended his C-F-L regular-season record to begin his career at 13-and-0.

Canadian Radio Awards: 989 XFM Small Market Station of The Year

Broadcast Dialogue has announced the winners of the inaugural Canadian Radio Awards, which we’ve dubbed “The Howards” after our publisher emeritus Howard Christensen.

When Howard, a radio veteran and one of the original Broadcast News anchors, founded Broadcast Dialogue in 1992, he saw a need for both timely delivery of Canadian broadcast industry news, but also recognized the importance of creating a sense of community.

989 XFM is very proud to be the winner of the 2020 Station of Year – Small Market award.
