The Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5 of the N-B-A Finals. Former Toronto Raptor O-G Anunoby collects his second championship ring after his getting the tip with 1.2 seconds left in Game 4, marking the largest comeback in N-B-A Finals history. The victory parade is set for Thursday.
Nestory Irankunda scored in the 27th minute, and Connor Metcalfe added an insurance marker in the 75th as Australia opened its 2026 World Cup with a 2-0 win over Turkey in Group D action at B-C Place in Vancouver on Saturday night. Earlier in the day, Qatar and Switzerland played to a 1-1 draw, Scotland beat Haiti 1-0, and Brazil and Morocco settled on a 1-1 draw.
Samuel Emilus gave football fans in Regina a reason to celebrate as he caught three touchdown passes, including one with under a minute left in the game, to give the Saskatchewan Roughriders a 31-27 victory over the visiting B-C Lions. Riders’ quarterback Trevor Harris finished with 417 yards passing and three T-Ds for the Grey Cup champions. It was the season opener for both C-F-L squads.
Paul Goldschmidt hit a tie-breaking home run in the ninth inning, and the visiting New York Yankees edged the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1. After Cody Bellinger singled to open the ninth against Blue Jays closer Louis Varland, Goldschmidt followed with a 400-foot drive to left. Varland had allowed just two earned runs this season and hadn’t given up a home run in 36-and-two-third innings. Toronto starter Kevin Gausman allowed only one hit and one run in seven innings.
Jackson Suber has his first 54-hole lead on the P-G-A Tour and will pursue his first win at the R-B-C Canadian Open on Sunday. Suber birdied the final hole Saturday to give him a one-shot lead over Bud Cauley and a host of others right behind. Tommy Fleetwood and Wyndham Clark are among 17 players within four shots of the lead. Sudarshan Yellamaraju of Mississauga, Ontario, is the top Canadian at 10 under — three shots behind the leader.
