Cole Butcher won his fourth race of the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour season in the Atlantic Oliver Tire 200 at Scotia Speedworld. In a wild scramble on a final restart with four laps to go, Russell Smith Jr. and Chris Hughes picked up their first podium finishes of the season taking second and third. Dylan Blenkhorn finished 11th in the season finale but it was enough to clinch his first Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Series Championship. Blenkhorn entered the race 23 points ahead of Jonathan Hicken, who finished directly behind the No. 67 in the finale. Donald Chisholm of Antigonish finished in 17th place.

The B-C Lions kept their faint playoff hopes alive, posting a gritty 25-23 win over the visiting Montreal Alouettes. Mike Reilly had 309 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception for the Lions. Montreal had a chance to win it at the end of the game but was stuffed at the goal line by the B-C defence.

Now the real fun begins for Cody Fajardo and the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Fajardo threw three T-D passes and ran for another as Saskatchewan clinched a playoff berth with a convincing 41-16 win over the Toronto Argonauts. The Roughriders can determine where they finish in the West Division as their final five regular-season games will be versus conference rivals.

A couple former Oilers came back to haunt Edmonton. Tobias Rieder scored twice against his former team and Milan Lucic added one of his own against the club that traded him in the summer as the Flames beat the Oilers 3-2 in Calgary. it was the final pre-season game for both sides.

Sidney Crosby left the Pittsburgh Penguins’ pre-season finale against Buffalo in the first period after appearing to take a shot off his skate. Crosby played on 6:42 before leaving. Coach Mike Sullivan said Crosby was “being evaluated.” The Sabres won the game 3-2 in a shootout.

Houston Astros ace Justin Verlander has become the 18th major league pitcher to reach 3,000 career strikeouts. The 36-year-old right-hander entered tonight’s game against the Los Angeles Angels needing six Ks to reach the mark. He achieved the milestone in the fourth inning when he got Kole Calhoun swinging at a slider. Houston went on to win 6-3.

Teoscar Hernandez hit a leadoff homer to spark the Blue Jays’ three-run first in a 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays at Rogers Centre. Randal Grichuk also contributed to the first-inning rally by lacing an R-B-I triple before scoring on a single by Rowdy Tellez.
