Antigonish RCMP had a steady weekend with Homecoming festivities taking place in town.
Sgt. Warren MacBeath said the weekend was less busy police wise than in previous years.
From 10 a.m. on Saturday morning until 10 a.m. on Sunday morning, police issued 34 liquor control act tickets, one municipal by-law ticket, one ticket for a noisy muffler, and 14 other motor vehicle act tickets.

Police also issued one ticket under the 911 act for a frivolous call. Police also took five people to cells for intoxication, and four people were transported to their residences from St. Martha’s to due to intoxication.
Following Monday’s Town Council meeting, Antigonish Mayor Laurie Boucher said overall it was a successful homecoming for STFX University. She acknowledged the hard work of the STFX Student Union and administration on the planning and organizing of the event.
Boucher thanked the RCMP for the work they did over the weekend, and for bringing in extra members. She also spoke about the relationship between the town and local landlords, noting landlords showed they were in contact with tenants and sent out a message of respect and taking care of the town.
