StFX hosted a meet and greet earlier today for Dr. Andrew Hakin, the university’s incoming
The university appointed Hakin to the post earlier this month. Dr. Kevin B. Wamsley will continue serving as Interim President until Hakin assumes his official duties on July 1, 2020. Wamsley will then resume his role as StFX’s Academic Vice-President and Provost.
Hakin said he will be in Lethbridge for much of the time between now and July, but will be here a few visits before the end of June. From that point until the start of the school year, it will be preparation, getting to know the institution and its people.
Hakin said his first impression of the local school were impressive, noting everyone was very welcoming.
Mary Lou O’Reilly, vice chair of the StFX Board of governors, served as president of the search committee. When asked what brought Hakin to the top of the candidate list, O’Reilly said it was a welcome marriage of academic excellence and strong leadership experience.
O’Reilly called the search a long process, adding it took the better part of six to eight months.
