St. FX University’s Mask Policy Relaxed

Sep 30, 2020 | Local News

St. FX University is relaxing its mask policy. In a letter to the campus community, university

president Andy Hakin says beginning Thursday, masks will not be required outdoors across the campus when appropriate physical distancing is maintained. However, where physical distancing is not possible outdoors, masks must be worn.

Hakin says this brings the school’s mask policy in line with that of Public Health and the wearing of masks in outdoor spaces. Classes of less than 50 students that include physically strenuous or outdoor activity will not require masks. The change applies directly to Human Kinetics skills courses or outdoor courses in education and other disciplines.

Students taking indoor skills classes won’t be required to wear masks while performing physical aspects of the skills but must wear a mask during lecture-style or non-physically active parts of the class.

However, Hakin says the university may revert to a mandatory mask-wearing policy that includes wearing a mask at all times, indoors and outdoors should an outbreak occur.
