St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation, Antigonish Town and Antigonish County Sign Agreement to Create a Community Navigator position

The official search is underway to hire a Community Navigator to assist in the recruitment and

retention of physicians in the Antigonish Town and County area.  An Inter-Muncipal Agreement to create the position was signed at Antigonish Town Hall by Antigonish Mayor Laurie Boucher, Antigonish County Warden Owen McCarron and St. Martha’s Regional Hospital FoundationChair Wayne Ezekiel.

Ezekiel says the Nova Scotia Health Authority has physician recruitment officer based locally, and the Community Navigator would support recruitment efforts.
Ezekiel says the Community Navigator would also play a role in retention of existing doctors.

Boucher  says the agreement demonstrates the importance of partnerships, no one

organization could have created this position on their own.   Boucher says discussions that led to this agreement began about two years ago.

McCarron says the Memorandum of Understanding signifies the importance of health care and

physician recruitment to the local community.

Now that the three year agreement has been signed, the position will be officially posted.
