Stellarton Police warns of a Puppy Scam

Jan 20, 2021 | Local News

The Stellarton Police Service is warning the public about a recent scam involving a puppy for sale in another province. Police say the intended buyer is first asked to pay in American dollars and then asked to buy prepaid Visa cards.

Police say the person was then told that a pressurized kennel would need to be purchased. When the buyer complained of the increased costs, they were told if they did not pay they would be reported for abandoning the animal.

Police say scams like this are quite common and reputable sellers would never request prepaid credit cards for such a transaction.
