During a regular council meeting for the Town of Stellarton on Monday, members decided to
cancel all summer recreation programs for 2020.
After consulting with Dream Candy and looking at provincial guidelines, stated council, they felt cancelling the programs was the safest decision. While there won’t be traditional recreation programs, council stated it will share details of some local activities in the future.
Later, Council decided to go with phone and e-voting for the fall municipal election and not have in-person ballot voting. Council noted this is only for the upcoming municipal election and doesn’t mean all future elections will go this route. There are plans to set up an accessible polling station in the town for those need assistance.
The Town is also installing a decorative display at the gazebo in Allan Park for high school students to take photos. Those using the space need to follow the provincial health and safety directives including maintaining physical distancing, limiting groups to 10 or fewer individuals, and users are encouraged to bring their own masks and hand sanitizer.
Finally, council is offering a one-time tax financing police to residential and commercial property owners affected by covid-19. Interested parties can find details on the town’s web site.
