It’s small business week and the focus remains shopping local.
Jack Kyte, executive director of the Pictou County Chamber of Commerce, says Small Business Week puts the focus on local entrepreneurs, noting small businesses are critical to the area’s economy. With the event taking place during a pandemic this year, Kyte said it is important to support local businesses.
Kyte said it’s been a stressful time for small business owners, adding he thinks communities across the province stepped up to help. He also said it’s important to remember we aren’t finished with covid 19, and, with the potential for a second wave, residents need to continue to offer their support.
The head of the Antigonish Chamber of Commerce said the importance of highlighting small businesses is even more important this year.
When asked what small business week means for the community, chamber president Lindsay Ross said it’s a time to pull together and support local entrepreneurs. She said small businesses did a good job dealing with the challenges presented by Covid 19 but they need support now and in the coming months.
She suggested shopping local, noting some larger stores are still locally owned. Ross also mentioned purchasing gift cards or certificates this year while holiday shopping.
