development arm of the Roman Catholic Church in Canada has launched its fall awareness campaign. Local Development and Peace volunteer Terry O’Toole says the theme of the campaign is “May Peace be With Her”. He says information about the campaign is in local churches now.
O’Toole says statistics have shown that by increasing female representation in Parliament by five per cent, a country is five times less likely to use violence when faced with an international crisis.
The contribution of women in social, environmental and economic development will be highlighted at an event at the Bethany Centre in Antigonish Wednesday night. It is being held to mark 50 years of the Canadian Catholic International development organization Development and Peace. The chair of the Social Justice Committee for Diocese of Antigonish, Terry O’Toole, says the theme of this year’s fund-raising campaign for Development and Peace is “Women at the Heart of Change”.
O’Toole says the aim of the meeting is to raise awareness about Development and Peace and this year’s campaign theme.
The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 at the Bethany Centre.
