Scotsburn’s Dave MacLennan came very close to winning his 12th Johnny Miles Marathon in New Glasgow over the weekend. MacLennan finished second, 27 seconds behind winner Bryan Hipson of Yarmouth. Among the top local finishers David Hood of Stellarton was 4th, Scott Langille of New Glasgow was 7th and Charlie Lefort of Inverness was 8th.
Top female finisher was Nancy Alexander of Timberlea. Top local runner in the women’s division was Beth Horne of Antigonish, who came in 5th among female runners. Janet Fraser of Scotsburn came in 12th in the Women’s Division
Dave MacLennan of Scotsburn has captured his 11th Johnny Miles Marathon in New Glasgow. The 52-year-old crossed the finish line in a time of 2 hours, 54 minutes and 52 seconds.
James Jessome of Antigonish finished second in a time of 3 hours and seven minutes. .
Antigonish natives took the top two positions in the half marathon. Donald Rasmussen was first in one hour, 18 minutes and 5 seconds. Cliff Worden-Rogers was second in one hour, 23 minutes and 54 seconds.
In the 5 K run, Raymond Simpson of Pictou County was first in 17 minutes and five seconds, followed by Peter Corbin New Glasgow at 17 minutes, 29 seconds.
