Nova Scotia Library Association compiling a list of the province’s best 150 books

Libraries across Nova Scotia are launching a new program with the aims of creating a commemorative list. The Nova Scotia Library Association and 9 Regional libraries are working on “Libraries 150”, a project celebrating Nova Scotia’s writers and citizens, ideas and stories.
Cindy Lelliott is the president of the Library Association and works through the Eastern Counties Regional Library. She says the list of nominated books will be compiled into a list in the fall:
A similar list was compiled during Canada’s centennial anniversary in 1967. Lelliott encourages residents to nominate books from their areas, to add regional tastes to the list. People can nominate books until August the 12th on the website: https://www.150booksns.ca

Baillie pledges help for Libraries

Party leaders say they are hearing from libraries loud and clear during May’s provincial election campaign. PC Leader Jamie Baillie was in Antigonish on Friday and says that libraries are often the hearts of communities, and too often see their funding cut short.
Baillie says a PC government would pledge to help libraries out after years of funding and program cuts:
Early in this election period, libraries throughout the province created door hangers that can alert candidates that a primary concern of residents is funding for public libraries.
