Nursing School Students say improvements needed for Registered Nurse entrance exam

Students attending Canadian nursing schools say they’re concerned with the continued use of a controversial entry exam for registered nurses.   To become a Registered Nurse, students must write an electronic exam called NCLEX-RN, a test originally developed in the U-S.
The Canadian Nursing Students Association says those who have written the test complain it includes American specific content, and sometimes lacks Canadian specific areas such as social determinants and indigenous health. Students also report the french language translation of N-CLEX is poor.
The president of the Nova Scotia Nurses Union, St. FX grad and Antigonish native Janet Hazelton says she sympathizes with their concerns.
The Nursing Students Association is encouraging their members to write letters of concern about the test to nursing regulators.  Sample letters are included on the association’s web site.
