The Antigonish Town and County Library is honoring a local supporter later this month.

On January 26, organizers are renaming the community room at the library as the Mary MacLellan Community Room, honoring the long-time county councillor and library backer. MacLellan began serving on the Pictou Antigonish Regional Library board in 1991, serving two terms as chair over that time, and served as the board representative to the Library Boards of Nova Scotia from 2003-2022. She was president of the LBANS board in 2010, recevied the LBANS lifetime achievement award, and chaired the board that built the People’s Place  Library in Antigonish.

MacLellan said she became associated with the library in Pictou County when she began teaching in the late 1950s. She said she is excited and proud of the dedication.

She thanked PARL chief librarian Eric Stackhouse and staff for nominating her for the dedication. The dedication ceremony is set for Monday, January 26, at the Antigonish Town and County Library at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
