An annual holiday tradition for the Town and County of Antigonish has been cancelled because

of the COVID-19 pandemic. For a number of years, the Town and County have held a New Year’s Levee on January First. It has been hosted in the past at the East Coast Credit Union Social Enterprise Centre. However, after discussions with the Antigonish Legion, Mayor Laurie Boucher says with the current pandemic, it was felt cancelling the event was the prudent thing to do.
Boucher says both municipalities want to lead by example. She also points out that both the province’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Strang and Premier Stephen McNeil are advising Nova Scotians to stay home, so they will follow that advice.
