With the town and county of Antigonish eyeing consolidation, both parties are now looking for a

community engagement liaison.
In September, both municipalities voted to investigate and gather the information needed to consider merging the two municipalities into one regional government. As part of that process, the town and county issued a request for proposals looking for an individual or firm to lead and coordinate a comprehensive community engagement process. The RFP on the county`s Web site states community engagement sessions should include a series of in-person information sessions with the Mayor, Warden and Councils throughout Antigonish Town and County, along with pop-up information booths in various community locations, as well as an information campaign that includes print and digital collateral. The liaison will also document feedback from residents and community stakeholders.
The deadline to submit proposals was Friday October 22.
Warden Owen McCarron expected the first review of the candidates to happen this week, with the final selection coming in a few weeks.
The warden said other municipalities who looked at consolidation went the route of hiring an engagement liaison and found it beneficial. Net week, he said, local municipal representatives will meet with counterparts from the Municipality Windsor-West Hants, which amalgamated in 2020.
