With the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board approving a rate increase by Nova Scotia Power, it will likely be another week or so before local residents know about potential changes to the rates under the Town of Antigonish Electric Utility.
When asked about the affects of the NSP rate increase on the municipality’s utility, Antigonish CAO Jeff Lawrence said the utility is working through that with its consultants. Lawrence said the 14 per cent increase over two years for NSP is more towards residential rates, where as the town is on the municipal wholesale rates.
Lawrence noted he suspects the rates will increase this year.
