The Town of Antigonish is planning for a public de-brief early next month on the situation with work taking place on Bay Street.
Following an emergency meeting where members of Antigonish Town Council heard from residents about the adverse affects the work on Bay Street is having on businesses and residents, council met with Dexter Construction to make a change in plans.

Night work on the project will began Sunday evening and will continue until Thursday, December 18. The plan is to then begin temporary asphalt paving for the area, with the goal of having it done by the end of day Friday. The work will then pause until the spring, and then will wrap up Phase 1 of the project, noted Mayor Sean Cameron. The cost to switch to night work is under $10,000.
When asked about potential compensation for business owners affected by the Bay Street work, Cameron said he doesn’t think council is in a position to determine any type of compensation right now.
Cameron said the debrief could happen as early as the second week of January.
