Antigonish Mayor Sean Cameron said the town is planning on a review of issues related to Bay Street road work late last year.
In December, Antigonish Town Council hosted an emergency meeting with residents speaking out about the affects paving work Bay Street had on nearby businesses and residents as well as the traffic flow to St. Martha’s Hospital. At the time council planned on doing a review of what happened with the work, and Cameron confirmed the review will take place.
Cameron said it is looking positive that they will be able to use the path for two days while the town finishes work on phase 1, which will include paving and sidewalk work, with the sidewalk work having little impact on traffic. The work could take three to four weeks.
As mayor, Cameron issued letters to local mayors and wardens asking to support the town’s application to have a new street that could connect from St. Martha’s Hospital to College Street. Cameron said he spoke with Cape Breton-Canso-Antigonish MP Jaime Battiste about the matter.
Cameron also noted infrastructure and engineering director Kyle Meisner pointed out there is only one water main going to the hospital, adding he is hoping to add another along with the new route.
