The Town of Antigonish offered its support for a guaranteed basic income.
During a regular meeting last week, Antigonish town council passed a motion to send a letter to the federal and provincial governments supporting the idea of a guaranteed basic income. Deputy Mayor Andrew Murray spoke about the motion following the meeting.
Murray stated everyone deserves to be able to meet their basic needs and live with dignity, adding too many Nova Scotians continue to experience food insecurity and poverty. He said a guaranteed livable basic income would provide a stable foundation for people.
