The town of New Glasgow has held the line on tax rates in their new budget. The residential rate remains at $1.84 per $100 assessment, with the commercial rate staying at $4.45 per $100 assessment. There are a couple of small increases on user fees: the solid waste uniform charge per residential dwelling unit (on buildings of four units or less) is up $10 to $160, while the pollution control rate is up 6 cents to $1.40 per cubic meter of water used.
New Glasgow’s operating budget this fiscal year is just over $22 million, the Water Utility Operating Budget is $4.54 million, the Water Capital Budget is set at $4.55 million, and this year’s Capital Budget is $13.11 million. In her remarks on the budget, Mayor Nancy Dicks thanked the work of Director of Corporate Services Corey Smith, who is leaving the post after four years to accept a new job with Mount Allison University.
