Staff for the town of Pictou will be busy collecting information for council as they consider the

future of two properties.
Last month, the Pictou Exploratory Society asked council for money to go towards a facility assessment of the former Pictou Academy building, a portion of which the group wants to use for its programs. At last night’s meeting of council, staff was asked to report back with any information from previous examinations of the building. Mayor Jim Ryan says this could avoid duplication of work.
Also, the contract for the operation of the Pictou Marina is ending in a few months, and council wants to consider its options going forward. It has been leased to a private operator for the last six years, and Mayor Ryan wants to be sure they are getting the best value for money.
Ryan expects council to have a clearer picture on both the Marina and the former Pictou Academy at January’s meeting.
