The Mayor of Trenton said the municipality is looking to host a public town hall style meeting later in June to go over a proposed draft budget, which will include items such as closing the town’s outdoor pool at Trenton Park.
Trenton Mayor Alec Dove said council now has a draft budget, and to make up for a deficit and not raise taxes, they proposed the closure of the pool, with a projected cost to operate of over $50,000.

After consulting with the town’s CAO and some councilors, Dove said they are looking to host the town hall sometime in the third or fourth week of June, and they are inviting residents to discuss the draft budget and potential fallouts, including the closure of the pool.
Dove said they don’t have an exact date for the town hall meeting at the moment.
Yesterday morning on the town’s Facebook, staff issued a post stating that given council heard concern from the public regrading the outdoor pool, before any final decision is made during the upcoming budget deliberations, council will be inviting innovative proposals or partnerships from individuals, community groups and local organizations aimed at keeping the pool operational.
The post also states staff are currently compiling an outline of pool expenses for anyone that would like to propose an alternative solution. An announcement of the background information and the proposal submission process will be forthcoming in the near future.
