A video of people climbing on top of an ambulance over the weekend led to responses from the local paramedics union and StFX University.

In a statement posted on the Nova Scotia Paramedics International Union of Operating Engineers  Local 727 website, the union addressed a situation over the weekend where two men climbed on top of an ambulance while paramedics were on scene to respond to a call at the post secondary institution.

The union condemned the actions of the people involved,  including those who cheered on the two on top of the ambulance. The union stated what the participants and onlookers did was thoughtless, inconsiderate, and potentially dangerous for themselves, the paramedics, and the patient. The statement also called on the university to look into the matter and discipline those involved.

In a release to the campus community, StFX VP of students Elizabeth Yeo , stated footage suggests the individuals involved are StFX students and the school opened an investigation. Yeo described the behaviours demonstrated in the footage as shocking, disappointing, and totally unacceptable, adding frontline healthcare workers deserve thanks and the utmost respect.

Yeo added if the individuals are identified as StFX students, they will be subject to the school’s disciplinary process
