Water Deliveries by Fire Department Raised in Mulgrave Town Council

Sep 5, 2019 | Local News

The CAO of Mulgrave has turned off the water supply to the fire department for the use of free water deliveries.

Darlene Berthier-Sampson said it came to her attention that at times there is a request to the fire department from someone for a water delivery which could be for them to fill up someone’s swimming pool or for a resident with a private well which has dried up.

She said that she received concerns that water was being delivered via the fire department without the town’s knowledge.

Berthier-Sampson met with the chief of the fire department and explained while the trucks belong to the fire department, the water is the property and under the management of the town and has instructed them if they get requests like that, those requests should be directed to the town.

She said if they have town constituents who are paying a very hefty price for water, it is unfair for those who are getting water and not paying for it.

Berthier-Sampson said even though the fire department meant well, it was bypassing their system and she had to cut off that water supply – her reasoning was not just for the equity to all the water payers but the town is trying to get a handle of how much water they produce and where that water goes.
