Wreaths and flowers that were laid at the 49th annual Provincial Seamen’s Memorial Service in Canso a week ago were placed at sea in a ceremony held Sunday.
The wreaths and flowers were removed from the Seamen’s Memorial by two members of the Lions Club and taken to Whitman’s Wharf to be passed out to vessels participating in the boat parade. In all, 39 boats joined the boat parade led by the “Irishtowner 1” .
The ships circled Canso Harbour and then steamed to Chedabucto Bay. There, the boats circled around the Irishtowner 1. Lay Minister Vonda Card from All Saints Anglican Church read a special prayer and blessing shared with all boats in the parade. Following a moment of silence, wreaths were placed at sea.
