X-Ring Ceremony to be In-Person with Changes, St. FX Fall Convocation to be a Virtual Event

St. FX University officials  have announced plans for two events its hosts in December in light of

X-Ring

COVID-19 protocols.   In a letter to students, parents and guardians, St. FX President Andy Hakan says the university’s Executive Council has accepted a recommendation for in-person X-Ring ceremony and shift Fall Convocation to a virtual format.

Senior students who wish to participate in the X-Ring ceremony must register by November 18th.  Hakan says it’s successful “dispersed” Xaverian Welcome event  demonstrated that the university can hold larger-scale events on campus while maintaining physical distancing.
Hakan says however, it cannot allow family members or other guests attend the ceremony, because the university doesn’t have the capacity to safely welcome the number of guests that typically attend.  He says extending an invitation to more than one thousand guests would place its attendee numbers well beyond what the school could manage.
As for Fall Convocation,  the university will proceed with a live virtual convocation ceremony.  An invitation will extended to graduates to return to campus for any in-person convocation ceremony over the next five years to walk across the stage if they wish.  More details on X-Ring and Fall Convocation will be announced soon.
