Writer/Director/Actor Shelley Thompson is delighted to announce the creation of a new fund to support trans youth at Phoenix Youth Programs. The DAWN Fund will be launched on March 31 the International Trans Day of Visibility, with a series of screenings of Thompson’s feature film DAWN, HER DAD & THE TRACTOR, winner of the 2022 Nova Scotia Masterworks Prize. DAWN, HER DAD & THE TRACTOR tells the story of a young trans woman returning home after the death of her mother to make peace with her estranged father. As Dawn and her dad begin to restore the old family tractor, they cautiously rebuild their relationship and come to understand the mechanics of the heart. The story evolved from Thompson’s experience of living in a rural Nova Scotia setting and being a parent to a young trans man – singer-songwriter T. Thomason. On March 31, funds raised at a number of screenings in schools, universities, and public libraries will bolster the fund.
For more information, check the DAWN Website, http://www.dawnandherdad.com or Dawn, Her Dad & The Tractor Facebook Page. To donate online: https://bit.ly/DawnFund

Dr. Lavinia Stan, Mulroney Institute Fellow and professor in the Department of Political Science, will discuss the war in Ukraine. The war waged by Russia against Ukraine has led to a host of human rights violations, ranging from massacres in Bucha and other localities to forced relocation of Ukrainian citizens to Russia. As of January 30, 2023, there were over eight million refugees from Ukraine across Europe and North America, most of whom are women and children. What might affect our ability to prosecute the soldiers and political leaders responsible for Russia’s war in Ukraine and related crimes?
Which national, international, or hybrid courts should and could hear these cases? And what kind of methods other than court trials should we consider in dealing with the legacies of this war? Adopting a transitional justice perspective, this lecture argues that not only the Ukrainians but also the international community should make sure that impunity is addressed with a carefully constructed package of reckoning policies.
