Help is on the way from the federal government to the province, as residents dig out from a weekend storm that dumped more than 100 centimetres of snow.

Central Nova MP Sean Fraser says the province formally requested assistance from Ottawa, and it has been approved by the Minister Responsible for Emergency Preparedness, Harjit Sajjan.

Fraser says this is a situation where all levels of government need to cooperate and work together.
