Antigonish RCMP Investigating Incidents of Railway Crossings Tampering

Dec 12, 2020 | Local News

The Antigonish RCMP is Investigating several incidents of railway crossings are being tampered with.  On Wednesday, RCMP were called to three incidents of tampering at railway crossings in various parts of Antigonish County.  On Friday, RCMP were alerted to a fourth incident at a railway crossing, this time in Monastery.

RCMP say the lights at each crossing were altered to activate the crossing lights indicating that a train was coming, even though none were.  At one crossing, the lights were changed to shorten the warning time of an approaching train by more than 50 per cent.

RCMP is advising the public to exercise caution when approaching railway crossings.

Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact the RCMP at 902-863-6500.  Should you wish to remain anonymous, call Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-TIPS, submit a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca or use the P3 tips app.
