Antigonish Warden says there may be Several Reasons Why More People aren’t Running in Municipal Election

Owen McCarron said sometimes you hope more people decide to get involved but it’s also a sign people are satisfied with the county’s current direction.

As for whether COVID-19 played a role in the amount of people running this time around, McCarron said he thinks it had an impact, with concerns about general health and the traditional door to door campaigning.

When asked if there is something the municipality can do or has done to produce more engagement in the municipal elections, McCarron said the county did offer funding for two seats for the Female Leadership school last month. McCarron said the county will continue to look at similar opportunities and encourage people to get involved.
