Community Information Sessions Planned on Open Adoption Records

Nov 22, 2019 | Local News

Several local communities will be hosting community information sessions as the province asks Nova Scotians for their thoughts on open adoption records.

One will be held on Wednesday, December 4th from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Bear Head Room of the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre.

Next Friday from 1 to 3 p.m., a session will be hosted at the Universite Sainte-Anne campus in Halifax and broadcast to all of its campuses in the province in French, including St. Joseph du Moine and Petit de Grat.

Nova Scotians can also provide input via an on line survey on the provincial government’s web site. The deadline for on-line submissions is January 3rd.

Currently in the province, a birth parent or an adult who was placed for adoption as a child can request a government search of the other. If that person is found, they must consent to having information shared with the other
