Delorey says Provincial Budget includes Improvements in Health Care

Feb 27, 2020 | Local News

Antigonish MLA and provincial health minister Randy Delorey said the latest provincial budget shows heavy investment in health care.

Delorey noted health care remains the single largest budget item for the province, adding they are increasing support to both the Nova Scotia Health Authority and the IWK. Specifically, Delorey said the province is offering $75.3 million for the new Doctor’s Master Agreement to improve the recruitment and retention of medical professionals. Delorey said significant funding is also going into expanded training opportunities for physicians with the Dalhousie Medical School.

Some of the other health related items in the budget posted yesterday include $3.2 million to support the implementation of the Human Organ Tissue Donation Act that will make it possible for all Nova Scotians to donate their organs and tissue, a $5.3 million increase to enhance long-term care in the province, for total long-term care funding of $612.4 million; and $20.9 million to help Nova Scotians access necessary medication.
