Federal Government Commits more than $7.7 million to National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health at St. FX

The Federal Government is providing more than $7.7 million over eight years to the National

Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health at St. FX University.  The Antigonish facility is one of six collaborating centres that produce research and knowledge to assist public health professionals.  The current work of the local centre focuses on such issues as opioid surveillance, housing, Indigenous reconciliation, anti-racism initiatives, mental health, food security and early childhood development.

The announcement was made by Federal Health Minister Ginette Petitpas Taylor and Central Nova MP Sean Fraser.  Fraser says research coordinated here is having an impact across the country.

tackle challenges which not long ago were not thought of as health issues.

St. FX President Kevin Wamsley says the funding supports the critical research that plays a role in improving the health of all Canadians.
