Local Players Chosen in the Maritime Junior Hockey League Draft

A number of players with local Under-18 hockey teams were taken in the Maritime Junior Hockey League Draft.

Forward James Beaton of the Cape Breton West Islanders was picked by the Truro Bearcats. Beaton’s teammate, defenceman Cody Van de Sande was chosen by the Fredericton Red Wings.

In the 3rd round, two members of the Pictou County Weeks Major Midgets were taken; defenceman Brayden Schmitt by the Truro Bearcats and center Kiefer Avery by the Pictou County Weeks Crushers.

In the 6th round, forward Devin Meagher of the Pictou County Weeks Major Midgets was selected by the South Shore Lumberjacks.

Two members of the Weeks Major Midgets were taken in the 7th round, goaltender Marcus Pettipas by the Valley Wildcats and defenceman James Harrison by the Pictou County Weeks Crushers.

In the 8th Round, defenceman Liam Trenholm of the Cape Breton West Islanders went to the Miramichi Timberwolves, while in the 10th round forward Lucas Canning of the Weeks Major Midgets was picked by the Truro Bearcats.
