The Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation chose their chief and band council in an election Thursday.
Incumbent P. J. Prosper was returned as chief, garnering 184 votes, while challenger Gerard Julian received 50.
All current members of band council were re-elected; Tma Francis, Kerry Prosper, Dolly Prosper, Anne Marie Paul and Judy Bernard-Julian. There was one additional seat on council in this election. The sixth member to join council is Jeremy Raymond Paul, who won after a draw. Paul was tied with 85 votes with Robert Pictou.
