A local country star is looking to enter the political ring.
Following the stepping down of Roger MacKay on Monday, the national Conservative Party
appointed Pictou County musician George Canyon as the Conservative candidate for Central Nova in the upcoming federal election.
Ryan Sharpe, Central Nova Conservative association president, said Canyon previously expressed an interest in running for the Conservatives and was already on the party’s radar. The party approached Canyon about the Central Nova vacancy and is now the new candidate.
When asked if an election is necessary to select a candidate, Sharpe said the association can either hold an election meeting or the national campaign can appoint someone. In this case, the campaign appointed Canyon.
Sharpe said the association and Canyon are meeting this evening to discuss their plans for the campaign
