The NDP’s Laurie Suitor wants to connect people with politics.
Suitor is the NDP candidate in Cape Breton-Canso for the upcoming federal election.
Suitor has a varied professional background, working as a teacher, counselor, serving as the intergovernmental advisor for the Unama’ki Institute of Natural Resources, and as the Bras d’Or coordinator with the Department of Environment and Labour . She said her work helped hear learn where people are struggling and now wants to connect policy with the needs of residents.
As for why she is running for the NDP, Suitor said she was listening to the platforms of each party after the writ dropped. She was listening for a party speaking about issues important for families and communities, adding the NDP platform and their ideas for addressing such issues impressed her the most.
Suitor said she sees health care and the economy as important issues in the coming election.
She encourages people to get out and vote, noting it’s important for voters to make their voices heard.
