Stellarton Town Council to Cease Operations at Memorial Rink

Mar 10, 2020 | Local News

The town of Stellarton is walking away from the Memorial Rink. At last night’s meeting of

Stellarton Memorial Rink

council, it was decided to cease all operation at the rink immediately, and to work out the costs for demolition of the building. Mayor Danny MacGillivray said while the rink has a long and storied history in the community, the age of its systems and the condition of the building proved too big a cost for the town to handle.

MacGillivray notes that Stellarton has other sporting facilities, some of which are in town.

There’s still the possibility for an eleventh hour rescue – if they can work out the details, the town may sell the building for one dollar to a local group that has spent the last year working out a plan to turn the Memorial rink into a community centre. Whether that happens will be decided next month.
