Grade 4 Students notice Two Different Spellings on Signs for a Local Street in Stellarton

Oct 16, 2019 | Local News

An error spotted by some eagle-eyed elementary school kids led to a flurry of questions for Stellarton’s mayor. Mrs. Gordon’s Grade 4 students at G. R. Saunders Elementary wrote a letter to Danny MacGillivray after noting that the street signs on Rundell Street had two different spellings: with two L’s and with one. Among the things they want to know are: whether having two spellings was intentional, if the street was named after a person or family, and how streets get named. MacGillivray says a bit of research showed the correct spelling is with two L’s. He plans to meet with the class  soon to answer all of their questions.

He doesn’t rule out the possibility of a member of Mrs. Gordon’s class becoming a future councillor.
