The co-founder and Managing Director of the Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs Golf Courses in Inverness, Ben Cowan-Dewar, is stepping down as chair of Tourism Nova Scotia. Cowan-Dewar has accepted the appointment as the chair of the Federal Crown Corporation Destination Canada.
He was appointed chair of the Nova Scotia Tourism Agency in January, 2014 when it was structured as a special operating agency. Cowan-Dewar led the group’s move to a Crown Corporation in 2015. Under his leadership, a new tourism strategy was created with a goal to increase tourism revenues to four billion dollars by 2024. The province has just come off a great year for tourism, with visitation up eight per cent.
Irene d’Entremont of Yarmouth will serve as interim chair until a replacement is found. She has served as vice-chair.
