It’s the opening day of the Lobster Fishing Season in the Southern Gulf of St. Lawrence. The season opened at 6 a.m. this morning in most areas. Lobster Fishing area 26-B North, along the northern portion of Inverness County from Margaree to Pleasant Bay and a small section of 26-A from Point Prim to Victoria PEI opens May 7th.
Several sections along the eastern shore in Guysborough County opened earlier.
The Lobster Fishing season in area 26 B North from Margaree to Pleasant Bay will open on Saturday morning at 6 a.m.
The decision to proceed with the Saturday opening was made this morning in a conference call involving officials from the Federal Fisheries Department and local fishermen. The start of the season has been delayed because of high winds. It was scheduled to open last Saturday, May 6th.
There are approximately 108 licensed fishermen in 26 B North.
