A former chair of the Education Department of St. FX University has been awarded Canada’s highest civilian honour. Vianne Timmons, now the President and Vice-
Chancellor for the University of Regina, was named an officer of the Order of Canada by Governor General Julie Payette.
Timmons is being recognized for her influential research and field work in literacy and for her leadership in post-secondary education. Timmons was appointed chair of the St. FX Education Department in 1992, before moving on to the University of Prince Edward Island in 1996.
Timmons was one of 125 appointments to the order, announced late last week.
St. FX University Chancellor Susan Crocker is to receive Canada’s highest civilian honour. Crocker is one of 99 new appointments to the Order of Canada announced recently by Governor General David Johnston. Crocker, who will become a member of the Order is being recognized for her leadership in the financial services industry and for her contributions to community development, social justice and the arts.
Among the notable individuals named to the Order are Prince Charles, six time Stanley Cup Champion Mark Messier, Captain of the Canadian Women’s Soccer Team Christine Sinclair, Comedian and actress Catherine O’Hara, “Jeopardy” Host Alex Trebek and Actor and Comedian Mike Myers.
Crocker will be invested into the Order of Canada in a ceremony at a later date.
