The Town of Antigonish is warning residents of a scam that’s targeting customers of its Electrical Utility. The town say text messages are being sent to residents from an unknown number claiming the utility has sent funds due to an over-billing with a link to a web site. The Town says the text messages customers have been receiving look like this:
The town advises customers will never be contacted by the Electric Utility via text message. All communication with customers is either by email at billing@townofantigonish.ca or over the phone from the Town’s Corporate Services Department.
If you’ve receive such a text, ignore, block or report the number to your carrier. The Town has notified the RCMP about this scam.
